Term 1 - Week 10 events:

During the last week of Term 1, our class attended Mass with the Grade 6 students. It was pleasing to see how welcome we were made to feel by the congregation and it was equally pleasing to see the respect and reverence shown by the children.

We also participated with respect and reverence during the Whole School Holy Week Liturgy, where each class presented a 'Freeze Frame' depiction of one of the Stations of the Cross.

Literacy

We have got straight into our Reading groups for this term with a focus on Questioning. It is important to think, consider and question before, during and after reading to gain a deeper understanding. We have worked on the different types of questions we can use. 

This term in Writing we have started off connecting to our Inquiry and Wellbeing units of work in order to provide a deeper connection for the children. They will be having some free choice in responding to different prompts in relation to ethical dilemmas. 

Maths

Measurement this week has been a lot of fun! We discovered that the World Record for the Long Jump was 8.95m and that's a long way compared to how far we could jump! We also looked at how far our shot put throws were compared to the 25m World Record. We used different instruments to measure, including a 1m or 1.5m measuring tape, a trundle wheel and a 30m tape.

We started to explore Mass where we have been estimating the weight of everyday objects using known weights. 

Inquiry/Education in Faith

Discovery is our Inquiry unit for this Term. We will have our Science hat on as we use experiments and investigations to discover different elements, phases and reactions. 

We celebrated Anzac Day yesterday with a lovely service lead by the Year 6s. We have also begun to look at creation myths from different cultural or religious groups, identifying similar themes and recognising differences.
