Dear Parents / Carers,

This week has been a significant week with Education Week happening in Victorian Government Schools, Education Support Personnel Day as well as National Volunteer Week.

National Volunteer Week recognises the vital support that the volunteers in our country provide to their local communities. Volunteering Australia’s definition of volunteering is “time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.” Volunteering takes many forms, from fighting bushfires, animal rescue, helping at the local sporting club, environmental or simply bringing a smile to someone's face. I am proud of my family’s history of volunteering. My grandmother was a volunteer on a hospital auxiliary. As a child I have fond memories of spending my school holidays selling the homemade donated craft items. My parents are active volunteers in their local community. They deliver meals and connect with some of the most vulnerable residents in the community through Meals on Wheels, spend time each week to sort and organise the book section of an Op-Shop and volunteer at their local wetlands by weeding and planting new trees.

Here at Rowville Primary School, we are appreciative of the contribution our volunteers make to our school programs and events. Over the last few weeks, we have had a number of volunteers support a range of whole school events including Colour Explosion Run for Fun, House Athletics Sport's Day, Mother’s Day Stall, District Athletics, Kitchen and garden class volunteers, Second Hand Uniform Shop and Canteen helpers. We know that volunteering has the power to change the lives of both volunteers and those they help. It offers opportunities for social, economic, and cultural inclusion, and improves our health and wellbeing. We thank each and every volunteer in our school community.

This week, we acknowledged and celebrated the work and contribution our Education Support staff make to student learning and school operations each day. I would like to thank all members of our ES Team - Mrs Robyn Wilson, Mrs Sue Reynolds, Ms Tracey Sheridan, Mrs Jackie Hicks, Mrs Kim Brennan, Mrs Rachel Ciechowicz, Miss Sarah Ternes and Miss Belinda Williams who go above and beyond for our students, parents and teachers.

Thank you to the families who have made a donation of nappies towards the Nappy Collective’s Mother’s Day Appeal. Donations can still be made at the front office. A Nappy Collective Ambassador will visit our school next Wednesday 24 May to collect our generous donations and deliver to families in our local community.

Kind regards,
