Sydenham Campus Principal Message

Nearing the end of the 2017 school year gives us an opportunity to reflect briefly on the many wonderful achievements of both our students and staff, whilst also looking ahead to work still to be completed.  This will obviously involve planning for 2018, including welcoming our new Year 7 students to the school.

Year 7 2018 - Orientation Day

Orientation for what will be the largest cohort ever at a Copperfield College campus will take place on Tuesday December 12.  Please note that Year 9 students will not be required at school on that day.

Year10 Formal

As is always the case at this time of year, last week the campus said farewell to our Year 10 students.  We know we speak for the entire College community when we say that we are incredibly proud of not only their individual and collective accomplishments, but also of the phenomenal young adults each of them have become.  We wish them the best of luck as they continue their schooling, offer our continued support in their education and development and look forward to celebrating your accomplishments over the years to come.

Before we do say goodbye however, we will get one last opportunity to celebrate with them at the Year 10 Formal this Thursday (November 30).  We look forward to seeing our students dressed up and ready celebrate responsibly.

Exams

Speaking of our Year 10s, they are presently undertaking exams at the Delahey Campus, experiencing their first taste of senior campus life.  These exams run until November 30.  During this time students should be dedicating significant amounts of their time to revising for each exam, testing out their study practices and habits in preparation for VCE.  Our Year 9 students will also begin exams on  December 5.  Good luck to all students.

Subject Selections

Elective choices for current year 8 and 9 students will be in Week 9 of this term.

Year 7-9 Step-Up and Awards

Step-up transition for our Years 7, 8 and 9 students will take place on Friday December 15 and Monday December 18. During this time, students will begin to experience their subsequent year of learning, before we all settle down to celebrate our achievements over the course of the year at our awards afternoon on the Monday from 1pm.  All parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Celebration

Once again a large number of our students participated in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, celebrated on campus with a pizza party and prizes.  This is an amazing program that develops student’s love of reading.

Special thanks must go to Mr Paul Hiddle, Ms Tina Stanislawski and Ms Sally Jeffery for their part in the organisation of this event.

Robotics Club

Our Robotics club will head to the National Championships in Wangaratta this weekend with a genuine shot at making an impact and potentially reaching the World Championships.  At their most recent meet, our students were awarded the ‘Excellence Award’ for achievement in the development of their robot.  This award will sit nicely with the numerous ‘Design’ and Robot Skills’ awards they have been awarded through 2017.  Good luck to the team as they advance to the next stage, and a special thank you to Ms. Ita Altas and Mr. Michael Horn for all of their hard work and dedication.

Here’s to a successful end to the year.  As always, feel free to contact us you have any concerns or queries.

Yours faithfully,
