Delahey Campus Principal Message

Greetings from Delahey,

The days are rapidly running out as we careen towards the end of the year; there are a great many things to settle and celebrate.

While teachers are planning for next year, students are finishing this year.  Our Year 11 and 12 exams finished last week, so Year 11 teachers are busily marking papers. We are also hosting the Year 10 exams; the recent heat wave has made conditions in the gym rather unpleasant unfortunately so we relocated some exams to more comfortable rooms.

2018 Year 12 VCAL

Next year’s Year 12 VCAL students began their 2018 program today with a presentation from Work Place Connect  (WPC) who will be running the bulk of the next week’s activities. The presentation had a galvanising effect on many students as they could see the prospect of gaining employment through our association with WPC.  By the end of the week students will have made choices about their community projects and should be able to tick off several learning outcomes.

Year 12 VCE Transition

Year 12 VCE Transition starts on November 27 and Year 11 VCE and VCAL on December 4. This is an essential part of students’ academic course.  Homework and tasks are on Compass and will remain there over the holidays. Parents should feel free to have a look and talk to their child about the progress they are making with that work.

On the first day of Transition for the new Year 12s we held an assembly where academic awards were presented for Year 11 work and the College Captain candidates presented their speeches.  Congratulations to all award recipients and good luck to the captain candidates who will go through an interview process after the speeches.

Course Confirmation

After Transition, we have Course Confirmation for students to confirm they are enrolled in the correct subjects and then pay the relevant subject charges to secure a place. Families are invited in on December 11 between 1pm and 7pm or on December 12, between 7am and 1pm. The process only takes around ten minutes however, at peak times there may be a queue.  Parents should make their way to the main office.  This year parents can pay subject charges via Compass.  If you have paid via Compass and your child does not wish to change any subjects after Transition, you do not need to attend Course Confirmation.  We find however that many students do wish to change subjects after Transition; in that case, you will need to come to Course Confirmation to make the changes and pay subject charges accordingly.

Year 12 Formal

Current Year 12 students have been flocking in to pay for their last ever school function, the year 12 Formal which is on November 29.  Staff are looking forward to celebrating the year with them.

Year 12 Results and Change of Preferences

December 15 is D Day for VCE students who are chasing an ATAR when results will be sent to them.  The ensuing four days are frantic for our Pathways team as students come in to change preferences and seek other advice.

Staff

Many Delahey staff are currently availing themselves of planning time to examine new study designs and create resources.  We are welcoming the following teachers to Delahey from junior campuses; David Dangerfield, Linda Muirhead, Libby Derks, Andrew Price and Kylie Parfett.  I am sure many Sydenham students will be delighted to see these familiar faces next year.  Alex Moyer will be travelling to Delahey to teach a Year 11 Psychology class.

Reports

The final thing to watch out for are the end of year reports for our current Year 11 students which will be published to Compass on December 20.

Amanda and I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Best wishes,
