ARTS MATTERS

YEAR 9/10 DRAMA EXCURSION

On a mission to enhance our understanding of theatrical performance (and to prepare for an upcoming classwork task), the Year 9 and 10 Drama classes set out into the city, to the Melbourne Theatre Company to see The Violent Outburst That Drew Me To You. We fought our way through the wintry weather of Thursday 9 May, and from the moment the play began we knew it was worth the trip.

We watched the story of the protagonist, Connor, being thrown into the woods by his parents as a consequence of the damage he had done to his relationship with them due to his profound anger. We were certainly not disappointed. We spent the entire duration of the performance completely immersed in the characters’ experiences; in just a short time, we laughed with them, laughed at them, pitied them, feared for them and hoped things would turn out just fine.

As the play was brought to an end, sorrow ensued but we’ve continued thinking of the performance since we were there. We are all tremendously thankful for this experience, and it is one we shall not soon forget.

YEAR 10 CERAMICS CLASS VISIT THE NGVI

On Thursday 2 May, Ms Kuriata took the Year 10 Ceramics class to the NGVI to attend a floor talk on the Ceramics collection.

We learned many interesting facts about how clay was fired thousands of years ago and saw incredibly old vessels that had somehow survived to the present day. The foyer at the NGVI had my favourite display of white porcelain that was enclosed in gloriously coloured prisms. It was a truly beautiful display.

We saw lots of really cool teapots which is the task we are currently working on. We hope you come to see our teapots in the Art Show in November, later this year.
