MCKINNON HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

On Friday 3 May, McKinnon held its Annual Cross Country Carnival. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining on the course.  The theme this year was 80’s Fit, with many staff and students dressing up. This year we raised $1802 for State’s School Relief.

The top 15 from each race will go on to compete in the Kingston Division Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 22 May at Karkarook Park. Good Luck to these students.

ROCK UP BASKETBALL REPORT TERM 1

Lunchtime sport for Term 1 was a 3v3 basketball competition. Being only in their first few days of school the Year 7s were the first year level in action with large numbers participating. Basketball talent scouts were out in force to get their first glimpse of the fresh talent and were were not disappointed.

Eventual winners were Jasper Boag, Senin Seymour and Amir Levy.

The Year 8 competition was hotly contested with former champion and basketball guru Oliver Ledger even taking a tumble and being forced out of the competition. This was good news for all the other teams and Eitan Ben-Moyal, Tomer Niego, Shravan Chauhan and Torren Zohar capitalised, showing their class in the latter stages of the competition to run out the winners.

By the time the intermediate competition came around there was a stark difference in the nature of the game with all of the participants growing about 20 cm’s from the previous year. This competition turned out to be a battle of the big guns from Year 10 vs the up and coming stars of Year 9.

Lucca Beaves, Tait Pascoe and Charlie O’Brien ended up winning the competition in a very entertaining Final against a gallant outfit lead by Michael Aminov of Year 9.

The senior division of the tournament featured three old fossil teachers who were channeling their 90’s youth by wearing Chicago Bulls outfits. Much to the disgust of the students, they played like the Chicago Bulls as well and managed to toy with the student opposition. So a big congratulations to Richard Long, Chris Hudd and Peter Quinn for going back to back and being the 3v3 basketball champions of the school.

School Captain Xavier Verdnik and his team mates including Jesse Marlow, Sam Kristensen and Lucas Thompson were the best student team for the tournament and we congratulate them.

Term 2 lunchtime sport will have the Scorpion Futsal Competition so we look forward to more vigorous competition happening there.
