SCIENCE

OPEN NIGHT

During Open Night last Wednesday the Science faculty demonstrated a number of fun games and activities to do with each of the scientific branches. Guests filled the room and got to experience some of what the science faculty has to offer. The chemistry team had plenty of fun with dry ice and helium whilst the biology team had visitors extracting DNA from strawberries. The physics room attracted many guests who spent their time playing with the physics toys on offer.

In attempt to get our students to see more real-world science, our Year 10 Biology students will be heading to Peter MacCallum Cancer Center later this week.  They will be hearing from scientists who are leaders in their fields as well as visiting the laboratories with phD and early career scientists.

BIG SCIENCE COMPETITION

Later this month a number of science students across Years 7-10 will be sitting the Big Science Competition. This international yearly competition is aimed at challenging critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

MONASH UNIVERSITY WOMEN IN STEM & ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT

The McKinnon Science faculty is also participating in the Monash University Women in STEM & Entrepreneurship (WiSE) Project.  We have been fortunate enough to enter two teams to participate in this wonderful event held in June.
