Early Learning Centre

All children in the Early Learning Centre have a drawing and writing journal. There may be daily, weekly or fortnightly additions. This documentation enables staff and families to monitor children’s progress with pre-reading and writing skills. It enables us to see the growth from non-representational (what some might call scribbling) to representational (work that adults can identify some form). All children develop at different rates, have different interests and abilities.

Much of our Language work in the Early Learning Centre starts with Oral Language – rhyming, initial sound identification and breaking words down into syllables. When children indicate that they are ready to move onto written language we begin with sounding out the words and copying written word.

Carla and Toby are both at the stage where their work is representational and detailed. They have the fine motor skills to manipulate writing implements to copy words.

NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) week assembly will be held on Wednesday 27 June in the Gymnasium. Our children will be presenting the Acknowledgement of Country that the Yellow Room children have written. Eleanor and Saskia from Green and Purple rooms will also be taking part in the presentation of the assembly. Please join us at 9.00am.
