Year 7 Camp Report

The Year 7s had a lovely time at Camp Arrabri last week. They showed enthusiasm and a positive attitude when attempting the flying fox or giant swing, which was out of their comfort zone, and had a lot of fun rotating through many other activities. There were plenty of tired looking faces from students, and teachers, when they arrived home.

Thank you to Mrs Witt and Ms McKay for their organisation of the camp and to the teachers that went along to support your daughters. It was great to see so many parents help unpack the busses when they arrived home!

Students reports of camp

Last week the Year 7s had a blast at camp! The camp was held in Warburton at Arrabri Lodge. On day 1, we all hopped onto the bus ready to start our first camp with MGSC. There were so many exciting activities that we participated in, that it was very difficult to pick a favourite! Some of our highlights were the flying fox, swimming in the pool, the reptile show, gold panning down in the river, visiting the town, toasting our marshmallows on the night walk and of course the giant swing!

The meals were delicious and I don’t think any of us went hungry! Another highlight for me was getting to know heaps of other Year 7s and secretly getting to know our Secret Sisters. At the end of the camp we were all exhausted but wished it didn’t have to go so fast! I’d also like to thank all of the teachers and staff at Arrabri Lodge who spent their time making this camp fun and enjoyable for all. Another big thank you to the Year 10 Peer Support leaders for organising the mini Olympics and 'strike a pose' catwalk as well as being there for us when we needed help. They all did a wonderful job and I definitely made some memories that I’ll never forget. I can’t wait for what MGSC has put together for us in the years to come!

Butterfly Foundation - Year 8

On Wednesday 4 March all Year 8 students attended a workshop presented by the Butterfly Foundation. Some of the themes that they worked through included:

  • Challenging cultural beauty ideals and language around appearance
  • Using media and social media positively to inspire rather than trigger
  • Deciphering unhelpful and potentially harmful health related messaging
  • Managing pressures and combating the inner critic
  • Encouraging help seeking for self and others

Elevate Education - Parent Seminar - Time Management

Earlier this term Year 8 students attended an Elevate Education Seminar on Time Management. They presented ways for students to backward time plan for assignments and provided strategies for revision in the lead up to tests. These skills will stand them in good stead for all years and we encourage the girls to practise them so that they become more effective learners. We would love you to hear the information so that you can encourage your daughter to use those skills at home when studying. We are inviting all parents in Years 7, 8 and 9 to come and listen to Elevate present in the dinner break at parent/teacher interviews.

WHEN: Thursday 26 March

WHERE: Lecture Theatre

TIME: 5pm - 6pm

Year 7 leadership

At camp the Year 7 students who were interested in a leadership position planned and presented a speech to their class or cohort. It takes a lot of courage from the students to do this and can be quite an exciting but daunting experience. It has been great to see so many students apply for a position and put themselves forward to be involved in this process. Congratulations to all students who have done this. A special congratulations to the students who have received a position.
