2020 Swimming report

Despite the cold and wintery forecast, the MGSC annual Swimming Carnival went ahead. The colour and excitement was still a plenty with the grey skies above. Congratulations to all staff and students for their efforts on the day but we need to also make some honourable mentions to our star swimmers.

A new record was set by the 13 year old Mackellar 4 x 50m relay team who smashed the previous record by 2.30 minutes. Well done to these swimmers.

Each carnival we award the overall champion for each age group based on their performance and results on the day. Congratulations to the following students:

13 years – Kate Ovenden

14 years – Bianca Stranger

15 years – Amelia Hall

16 years – Georgia MacMillan

17 years – Grace McIntrye and Maia Lafferty

18 years – Cara Jenkins

The final results will announced at the International Women's Day assembly.

Athletics Carnival Information

Remember we have our Athletics carnival coming up on Tuesday 17 March at Dolamore Oval, Mentone. This is an opportunity for students to earn some more house points. Information will be distributed to all students via Compass over the coming days.

Students are to meet at Dolamore Reserve athletics track by 8.45am for roll call.

Years 7 to 10 students are to report to their Personal Learning teacher.

Year 11 and 12 students are to report to the and the Senior School Managers.

If students are unable to get to the venue, there will be a shuttle leaving from the MGSC gym at 8.10am. Please register your interest using the Google form that will be sent out shortly. The shuttle will be running back to school at the conclusion of the carnival for those that need this service.

Wear your house colours for the day, some lunch (although World Challenge will be running a BBQ and selling snacks), drink bottle, hat and perhaps some warm clothing. Leave your phones, speakers, horns and tents at home for the day.

If you have any further questions either ask your PE teacher or come and see Ms Parker in the Gym office.

Round Robin

A pleasing effort was displayed with all the Intermediate cricketers, volleyballers, softballers amd tennis players when they represented the college last week. The teams wore their uniform with pride and displayed good sportsmanship on and off the field. Well done to all and thank you to the staff coaches – Mr Hull, Ms Bowers, Ms Jarvis and Mrs D’Adamo.

The Year 7s and Year 8s are in the process of trials in preparation for their upcoming round robin days. A reminder to students to read their emails, Compass posts and the bulletin screens for information regarding these sessions. Good luck to all students involved.

Intermediate Volleyball Report

On Monday 24 February the Intermediate volleyball squad competed in the SSV Interschool Volleyball competition at our home courts. We had seven schools competing, with three Mentone Girls' Secondary teams. It was a tough competition with the Year 9 B team making it through to the finals in three VERY close games. We had an enjoyable day, improving our volleyball skills! A huge thank you to our team manager, Jordy Murphy (Year 10) for ensuring our teams were organised and on court ready to begin their matches.

Lilly Crofts (Year 10)

Intermediate Tennis

Six girls from Year 9 and 10 went to Albert Reserve to play Intermediate Beachside round robin tennis. We had a lot of fun playing against other schools, and we finished in second place! Even though mother nature decided to rain on us, we squeezed a few games in and overall it was a fun day with lots of laughs.
