JP Racing 2022
Casey Field Race
On the 30th of July, the JP racing team got to go and experience their first race against 35 other teams at Casey fields. Every team raced amazing and worked their absolute hardest.
At 8am all the students arrived at Casey fields to prepare for the upcoming race by doing are pre-race checklist that we created earlier in the year. Then once everyone was ready and prepared the race started and the first riders were off!
Next it was my race, I had butterflies in my stomach, but I was so excited! As soon as I got in the vehicle and started peddling it all went away and all I thought about was winning with my team! After my 40 minutes of riding, I got out of the vehicle, and I was so tired I couldnt feel my legs. But after all my hard work I ended up getting my fastest time EVER!
After all the races we found out the results, Phoenix got 3rd Vanquish placed 5th and Shazam Came 6th! I was so proud of my team for trying are best and having a wonderful time at Casey fields! - Ava K
On the morning of Saturday 30th July, all Level 6 JP Racing HPV (human powered vehicle) students travelled to Casey Fields, a sporting complex located in Cranbourne, to compete in a 6 hour cycling event. JPPS had entered 3 teams in this race, which provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn how to compete in a racing environment in the lead up to Maryborough, a 14 hour event later this year. The teams were made up of 8-9 students of both genders, and were named: Vanquish, Phoenix and Shazzam. Each vehicle holds 1 rider, who races around the track for about 40 minutes.
People arrived for a chilly start, helping to set up some marquees for us to all stand under for the day. Parents brought some delicious cakes, slices and also fresh fruit, kindly donated by Bushy Park (aka Big Watermelon).
The race commenced at 10 o’clock and finished at 4 o’clock. At the end of the race, Phoenix had finished 3rd in its category, Vanquish 5th, and Shazzam 6th.
Highlights included a strong start for Phoenix, everyone riding their best in the race, no one crashing at all, which was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious, thanks to parents organising a great lunch and afternoon tea.
Personally, I found the race extremely fun and enjoyable to race other teams from JPPS and other schools. The course was very easy to manage without difficulty and I loved the feeling you get when you overtake someone (especially if they’re a JPPS team!).
All in all, the Casey Fields race was a success for JPPS and everyone had a fantastic day.
Thank you to Mr Zach for organizing this event for us, it couldn’t run without you, to Mr Jenkins, who showed up to help, to Mr Kal, and to all the parents who showed up and helped with food, setup, and pack up, which made everything 100 times easier on the teachers. - Evan W
