Sheepvention 2022

For our boarders, the Sheepvention is an event they are able to visit for both days whilst also enjoying a three-day long weekend. Many of our boarders enjoyed catching up with friends and seeing some of displays. The cold weather was braved by many past, present and future students of The College and we thank you all who visited over the three days. I also greatly appreciate the work of Alana Brown and Susie Holcombe for setting up and organising our site. Thank you.

Welcoming our new boarders

Welcome to our new full-time boarders Daniel Su and Jack O’Loughlin. Daniel, who is in Year 10, resides from Portland and has been looking forward to coming to College for some time. Daniel has already made some wonderful friends and has easily moved into the Boarding House routine. His humour is his trademark, with the ‘Sup Guys’ a common welcome from Daniel.

Jack O’Loughlin is from Mount Gambier and began his boarding journey with us this week. Being in Year 9, Jack has a lot to look forward to, including the Mittagundi camp which departs on Sunday morning. After his first day, Jack said that his favourite subject is Science and that the food is pretty good at the Boarding House. Jack continues the boarding tradition for his family at College this term, with mum and Old Collegian and boarder as well. Jack has been warmly welcomed into the House by his room-mate Will Mackellar, and fellow Year 9’s Charlie Ingham and Aiden Credlin.

COVID update

Our Boarding House is a tight knit community and the health and safety of all boarders and MOD’s is paramount. With a higher rate of boarders succumbing to COVID and the flu it has been timely for us to split our dinner service so boarders are not gathering in large communal groups. We also have MOD’s wearing masks, encouragement of hand sanitisation, and lessoning the number of boarders gathering in rooms. We believe these small but important steps will help in reducing the spread of transmission throughout the houses.

Casual boarding

Have you ever considered casual boarding? With our after-school programs in full-swing and our day school students taking these opportunities with determination our boarding houses can offer a comfortable place for an evening or two. When a casual boarder finishes their after-school commitment they are able to be picked up by our driver and brought back to the boarding house. Here they enjoy dinner, academic assistance, super supper (on a Wednesday), a warm and comfortable bed for the night with breakfast and lunch the following day. Casual boarding is becoming a popular choice for families and their children of all ages, and I encourage any family to consider this option.

If you would like to trial boarding, experience the benefits of casual boarding or simply enquire about boarding in general please do not hesitate in contacting Susie Holcombe or myself.

Best wishes,

Andrew
