CYBERSAFETY

Susan McLean Australia’s foremost expert in the area of cyber safety presented to our Senior and Middle Years students this week, along with delivering a parent session.  I enjoyed how she was able to simplify safe behaviour online by encouraging students to ask themselves three key questions:

Respect – is this respecting myself, my body and other people?

Responsibility – this is not about the question, can I do it? but more appropriately, should I?

Reputation – how will this affect my digital reputation?

She acknowledged that there is always an inherent risk when using digital devices online, but cyber safety is about identifying, managing, and minimising the risks of our online behaviour.

If you’re interested in reviewing the Cybersafety information presented, have a discussion with your child and feel free to explore Susan’s Keeping Safe in Cyberspace Series of videos here.

With Sheepvention early this week, it has been a busy time for our Middle Years students, particularly the Ag Studies classes, cast of Matilda and the Year 9 boys who are preparing for their Mittagundi Experience departing on Sunday. I am so proud that so many Middle Years students are involved in the musical and working so well together. Next week I’m looking forward to accompanying the Year 9 boys to the Victorian high country next week and seeing them learn and grow through their experiences at Mittagundi. And getting back into the snow is also appealing!
