“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.”

The Hamilton and Alexandra College has had a rich history of offering our students a range of extension opportunities in the creative and performing arts. This week the College Musical, Matilda, will be performed by a strong cast of singers and dancers and supported by a creative team of musicians, stage managers, sound and light, makeup and costume.  Mrs Bonita Silva and Mr Benjamin Hiscock have led our student cast and crew on a journey of self-discovery, as they have learned how to innovate and be agile in their approach to performance.

Roald Dahl’s book Matilda reminds us of the power that we all have to step up and try something new. We have the power in us to bring about change, to challenge the status quo, to see ourselves differently. In essence this is who Matilda is in the much-loved Dahl story and one that you will see come alive on the stage of the Simons Auditorium.

The Creative and Performing Arts teaches design thinking, collaboration, problem solving and excellent leadership skills.  We encourage our students to experiment with a range of elective pathway subjects in Years 8 and 9. Students in the EXPLORE program are currently selecting their subjects for 2023 and these are due on 11 August 2022.

Many of our students join the College community to be a part of a long line of successful performers and be part of the creative and performing arts. Be sure to see the musical this week.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

We would like to invite parents to another Elevate Education free online seminar. This time the focus is on essay writing. If you would like to know more about how you might assist your child, please log onto the seminar. Links below.

Essay writing = two words that strike utter despair into the heart of any student.

For most students receiving feedback on an essay looks like this:

❌ Didn't answer the question

❌ Lacks structure

❌ Needs evidence to back up argumentation

But what do these phrases even mean? How can a student address those issues and improve?

In our upcoming Essay Writing Masterclass, on 10th August at 6:30pm (AEST). We will cover:

✅ The importance of goal-setting in essay writing

✅ How you can provide real-time support & feedback to speed up the process of improvement

✅ How students can begin to self-assess their work so they can become independent writers
