13 -21 August 2022
To celebrate National Science Week, the BEST team are running special activities each lunchtime this week in B2 and students have been invited to register their attendance via the link below - it's going to be the BEST!
What's on offer?
Tuesday 16 August: FOSSILS ALIVE
Calling all fans of 'The Meg', 'Indiana Jones' and 'Jurassic Park'... Fossils are coming alive during Science Week!
Join paleontologist, James Rule, to reconstruct extinct animals and learn how scientists use fossils to reimagine long-lost creatures.
Wednesday 17 August: WOMEN IN STEM (DURING SESSION 3)
Have you ever thought you might like a career as an engineer, a doctor, an app developer, a project manager or a scientific researcher? Do you enjoy science, maths or technology and like to learn about how things work? If you answered yes to any of these questions, come along and hear from 6 inspiring women who currently work in the STEM field. All students welcome!
Thursday 18 August: LAB RATS
It’s time to experiment! To celebrate 2022 Science Week Theme ‘Glass: More than meets the eye’, come make delicious edible glass and challenge other fellow lab rats to a game of ‘Light Box’ soccer!
Friday 19 August: WORK FOR IBM + LEGO WORKSHOP
Do you have what it takes to work at IBM, a multinational technology corporation with operations in over 171 countries? In this workshop, two current IBM employees will guide you through a fast-paced challenge. You will work in teams and use LEGO to build and deliver products to a client (IBMers). Are you up for it?
ENTIRE WEEK: REMOTE CONTROLLED RADIO TELESCOPE
We are lucky enough to have access to the Victorian Space Science Education Centre's Radio Telescope! Just like the James Webb telescope, the VSSEC telescope detects infra-red radio waves to take deep space images of the sky and explore the cosmos. We have been given remote control of their telescope for the entire week!
