Boys Year 7 SMR AFL Finals

On Tuesday 2 August, the Boys Year 7 AFL team ventured out to Lloyd Park in Langwarrin for the Southern Metropolitan Region AFL finals. The team had three gruelling games locked in, followed by finals if we won enough games.

The team was fired up and ready to go for their first game against Berwick Secondary College. Berwick had some tall, strong and fast players across all areas of the field. We were down by a few goals and the coaches knew something needed to change to try and get the win! So, our ultimate swingman James S was moved from the ruck to forward line where he provided the team with some energy and managed to score two goals! Unfortunately, we lost the game narrowly by 4 points. Our second match was against Frankston High School. They were a well-rounded team who made the most of the strong, icy breeze and converted well in front of goal. Harvey was solid down back intercepting inside 50 entries and reading the play exceptionally well. The boys tried hard but unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalise on the strong winds and went down by 5 goals. The final match of the day was against Mornington Secondary College. We stayed with them the whole game until the last 10 minutes where Mornington kicked away and utilised the strong breeze.

The team displayed exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the whole journey which they should all be proud of! Honourable mentions go Gus, who was courageous throughout each game! Nate, who displayed solid leadership and got his teammates involved! Bryce, who showcased his ability to read the play and get to the right spots to intercept the opposition. Well done to each player who was involved in the journey!
