Healthy Lifestyles
The Healthy Lifestyle teachers are always striving to engage, educate and encourage our students through the diverse range of classes, subjects and specialisms that are on offer here at Beaumaris Secondary College. Having access to our beautiful facilities for our practical sessions is an extra bonus to being an active member of our school community in the Healthy Lifestyles domain. To gain more of an insight of what our students are experiencing in HL’s, let’s hear from two of our students and their encounters they have had so far this year:
We have done quite a lot this year in Health Lifestyles. The year started off learning with the dimensions of health and wellbeing and the PBL of 'What makes a healthy human' in theory. Practical classes have included different types of invasion games. We all had a lot of fun in Term 1, and moving into Term 2 the enjoyment stayed with the 'learning to give feedback' unit. Everyone has loved healthy lifestyles in Year 7 so far this year and making use of the muti-purpose pitch and the gym every week is awesome. Being able to play on these facilities in inter school sport has been amazing.

Throughout the journey at Beaumaris Secondary College, we as students are given the opportunity to participate in many different activities through Healthy Lifestyles. As a Year 11 student doing both Health and Human Development and Physical Education Unit 1 and 2, I have had the opportunity to complete a range of different physical activities as well as learning about the different dimensions of health and wellbeing, sedentary and physical activity guidelines, benefits and health risks of physical activity and the skeletal system. In Physical Education we are given the opportunity to engage in practical classes relating to the studies we complete in class. In Health and Human Development, students are given the opportunity to learn and practice parenting skills by participating in the baby simulator program and a budgeting exercise to understand the expenses of becoming a parent. So far this year students have had many opportunities, such as going to Bounce, Laser Tag, visiting a Maternal Child Health Centre, Interschool sports days such as Footy and Netball as well as a range of practical classes where we learn about the importance of living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
