This week has been a busy week for our sub-school. Some of our students from 25 went to BRITE industries this Wednesday for work experience. Work experience is a great opportunity for our students to experience what it is like to work in an industrial setting. They learn new skills and meet other workers. BRITE industries have a warehouse setting as well as a garden nursery setting. Students will get the opportunity to experience these settings over the next couple of weeks. Students from 19 and 22 enjoyed visiting Brite for the last three weeks, where they've learnt about packing orders and all sorts of new workplace skills.
I had the pleasure of accompanying a group of students to the Melbourne Town Hall this week to participate in the States Schools Spectacular. Thank you to Catherine for the many hours she puts into organising this each year. It was amazing to see how engaged our students were. They all know the words by heart and really did their best for both singing and dancing. It is amazing to see our students joining the mass choir with many students from other schools around them. All of the students enjoyed catching the train to and from this excursion. It will be great to see the final concerts for States Schools Spectacular. Thank you to Sam and Caz, our parent helpers who joined us on Wednesday to help us out.
Student Leadership meeting took place this week. Our student leaders met to discuss important things such as the Flag roster, PBS tickets and Wear it Purple Day which we are celebrating next Friday 26th August. The students discussed that there are many ways to wear it purple including clothes, hair, ribbons, hair spray, face paint, hats, shoes and scarves. I look forward to seeing many of us wearing purple next week to show our support. The students decided that the classrooms should take part in a Wear It Purple door/window decorating competition. Rachael and I are looking forward to judging these displays next week.
Nafiz and Max have been talking about State School Spectacular. On Wednesday they went to a dress rehearsal at Melbourne Town Hall. They were very excited about it. They are looking forward to performing in September.
Mert, Faaz, Max and Sunny have been going to Brite Industries for several Wednesdays. They had their last session last week. At Brite, they packed a number of items into boxes. This was to give them some experience of what they might do once they graduate. Everyone enjoyed the experience.
Each week we are responsible for doing the recycling in our school. We collect bins that are full from throughout the school and then we wheel them to the nature strip once a fortnight to be emptied. Everyone is a great help.
Each Tuesday we go to the school library. Everyone enjoys the experience and Nick and Alicia like having stories read to them.
