Baptism
Christians are baptised because like John the Baptist, they believe in Jesus and want to show his love to others. People are baptised in order to show they believe in Jesus and will follow his teachings to love God and others.
When parents bring their children for Baptism they agree to pass on the Catholic faith, to share the stories of Jesus and his teachings to love God and others.
Parents, Godparents and all members of God’s family, the Church, welcome the newly baptised person and commit to ensuring that the newly baptised person will:
- identify as a follower of Jesus
- follow the teachings of Jesus to love God
- follow the teachings of Jesus and show love in their thoughts, words and actions to others
A newly baptised person is guided to live as a member of God’s family when their parents, Godparents and other members of God’s family.
If your child is interested in becoming Baptised, the parish is running Baptism Preparation Classes for children aged 7 and older. For more information please contact the Hannah on sh.sacraments@holycross.wa.edu.au or Fr Bona on 9296 7088.
