Craft Room

All students have been exploring clay in the craft program this term. The Prep students made simple pinch pots. They also collected leaves from around the school to use as stencils to trace around to make clay leaf mobiles.

Class one students used the coil technique to make their lizard bodies and simple coils were used for the legs. Class 2/3 students drew detailed images of insects and used these as a basis for their clay works. The insects were placed on a clay slab to secure the delicate legs.

Class 3/4 students explored dwellings from around the world. They used the pinch and slab technique to create their structures adding the final intricate details to enhance their clay works. Class 5/6 used the theme of ancient Egypt to inform their clay works.

Students looked at images of ancient sarcophaguses to create their clay work. These were hollowed out and further details were added to make them look more realistic. Grade six students also completed their community tiles that will be placed next to last year's student tiles.

5/6 students were also invited to be involved in a collaborative art installation coordinated by artist Sarah Metzner. Students created artworks for a group exhibition titled: FLOW CLIMARTE. The exhibition collaborates with a wide range of artists, art professionals, and scientists to produce compelling programs for change.

The installation consists of suspended vessels/boats occupied with groups of little figures made by students. The installation symbolises and brings mindfulness to the past and future movements of children, families and refugees from their homelands, communities and cultures, due to climate disasters.

Craft Group

The TPS community craft group is up and running again. This has always been a great way for our parents, grandparents and carers to meet other community members in a creative space, to create craft things to sell at our next BBQ or Art festival. If you are interested in picking up a new skill or would like to share a skill then this would be perfect for you. Your toddlers are also welcome to join you in the art room.  Please contact Merrin for further information. memlayden@gmail.com

Thank you,
