Relieving Principal Report

Mrs Hannah Crawford

As the term is coming to an end it seems like a good time to reflect on the term that has been and what a busy and fast one it has proved to be.

I would have to say that the highlight of this term has been the big improvements the students have all made individually with their learning. There have been some big inroads in to some concepts learnt and some skills and strategies developed across all the different learning areas. The students should all be very proud of themselves.

Another highlight would be the feedback that the students gave in a survey recently.  It was a reflection of the year so far. I would like to share some of the results with you as I think the honest reflections are an important way for us as a school to identify the areas in which we can continue to improve ensuring we make school a fun, safe and enjoyable place where engaging, productive and authentic learning takes place.

The results were very positive and encouraging. The survey included around 20 questions and overwhelmingly the results indicated that we are moving in the right direction - in the students eyes at least.  I am including a few of the results here but if you are interested in seeing all the questions and responses in more detail please contact me and I will be more than happy to share.

It is very pleasing and reassuring to see that the students feel known, valued and cared for for all the staff.

This below graph demonstrates that we have some investigating to do to further analyse this data and have a questioning session with the students to see if we can work out ways in which we can provide even higher stimulating and engaging teaching and learning experiences for the students.

The following data intrigued me and I was curious as to why a student answered 'maybe' to the question, "Would you recommend this school as a good school to others?"  Upon questioning the students as a group the student volunteered their reason. They said, "Well it may not be the best school for everyone, like if they were a bully or something then this wouldn't be the school for them."

My personal favourite - when asked "If you were Principal for the week what changes would you like to make, what would you change?"  I was expecting a swimming pool installation or an ice cream party every Friday. These were the actual responses.

So in light of these results - looking forward to the next semester!!

Eddie has just informed me that there are 604 800 seconds in one full week. So by my calculations that means for the holidays we will have 1,209,600  seconds of holiday time!! So don't waste a second and make every second count!!  Enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 3.
