Literacy in 1A and 1B
Over the last few weeks, the Year One students have begun learning about procedural writing. Both 1A and 1B have been working on ruling a margin and adding the date to their work before beginning a writing lesson. The students have been doing a wonderful job at this.
In week 4, we wrote a procedural piece of writing called 'How To Make Fairy Bread'. We learnt how to write the title, aim, ingredients and the steps. The presentation of students work was outstanding!
During week 5, we explored a new topic for procedural writing and wrote about 'How To Make a Volcanic Explosion'. The students really enjoyed writing and learning about how to make an explosion. Towards the end of Term One, students will begin exploring imaginative texts and will dive more deeply into recount writing that involves who, what, when, where and how.
Here is some of our work pictured below!
InitiaLit
During Term One, the students have been consolidating new sounds and words during InitiaLit lessons. We have learnt some new tricky words and are working hard to make sure we practice any chance we get! During InitiaLit, we have been working on adding new tricky words into sentences and we are getting better at writing on the whiteboards. Over the last three weeks, we have introduced new terminology to the students. We have discussed the use of compound words, super sentences and nouns. The students enjoy getting started on InitiaLit in the morning and we have established a good routine.
It has been great to see the students using their reading diaries at home and working on all of the new digraphs that we have learnt during InitiaLit lessons. This is just a friendly reminder that all readers are due every Friday.
CRAZY HAIR AND SOCK DAY!
On Friday the 3rd of March we had a crazy hair and sock day. It was great to see everyone get involved. Here are some crazy pictures!
Take Home Readers
Commencing in week 3, all Year One students will be given their 'Home Reading Diary' for Term One. Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 2-3 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
If you would like to read an extra book for the week, your child may login to the MultiLit eLibrary using an electronic device. The eLibrary uses a browser-based platform, so books can be read on desktop computers or mobile devices (including smartphones and tablets). You will find the link to this website and your child’s login details at the front of their reading diary. Alternatively, your child may choose to read a ‘good fit’ book of their choice instead.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Friday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
