What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few lessons, the Foundation Students have continued to build upon their Fundamental movement skills and underarm throwing technique. It has been fantastic to watch their skill grow in such a short period of time. During our throwing lesson the students were exposed to the Tick, Tok, Step & Rock technique which steps out a basic process to throw an object underarm. The students applied this technique to different activities and even worked with a partner to build their confidence.

The Foundation students also completed their first Health Portfolio task which asked them to label and colour different parts of the body with my guidance.

Moving forward we will continue to work on their underarm throwing technique and aim to move to the overarm throw.

Year One/Two:

Over the past few lessons, the level 1 students have focused on both their underarm and overarm throwing techniques. These lessons have a direct connection with building their Fundamental Movement skills. To build the students confidence, they participated in a variety of activities which focused on throwing accuracy, throwing power and throwing consistency. Once the students demonstrated a level of competence, we applied both throwing techniques to an Indigenous throwing game and another game the students all love, Snowball.

Over the last three weeks the Level 2 students have begun their unit on Striking. We commenced the unit incorporating the sport, Field Hockey. The students learned the correct way to hold a field hockey stick and then applied this technique to dribbling a ball and push-passing with a partner. In the 2nd lesson students moved on to striking a ball with a cricket bat which is another technique. The children then applied their learning to a game of continuous cricket which focused on scoring runs after hitting a moving ball and working collaboratively with team members.

Year Three/Four:

Over the last three weeks our level 3 & 4 students have participated in a three-week Field Hockey program delivered by Gecko Sports. The students were exposed to the different skill sets required to play the game and worked together with small groups to build upon these. In the last week of the program, the student applied of the learned skills to a round robin style tournament. It is always fantastic to see the students exposed to sports they may not normally try. It takes them out of their comfort zone and develops different skill sets which could be applied to their preferred sports.

Year Five/Six:

Over the last three weeks our level 5 & 6 students have participated in a three-week Field Hockey program delivered by Gecko Sports. District Swimming

On Friday February 24th, twenty-four students represented our school at the District Swimming Carnival at Belgrave Outdoor Pool. Overall, it was a fantastic day for our school with our competitors giving their absolute best. We now have eighteen students who have progressed through to the Division Carnival on Friday March 10th at Croydon Memorial Pool. Thank you to all of the parents who attended on the day to support the team, we truly do have a wonderful community spirit at our school. Congratulations and well done to everyone.

School House Athletics Carnival

On Monday February 28th, the Level 3-6 students participated in our House School Athletics Carnival at Knox Athletics track. To see all of the students dressed in their house colours was fantastic. The level of respect, responsibility and resilience on display from everyone was outstanding. Every student who participated in an event should be extremely proud of their efforts. One of the highlights of the day would have to be the parent and teacher race that concluded the day. To those who did participate in this race, thank you! A big shout out must go to all of our helpers and volunteers on the day. Without your support, events like this cannot function. The District Carnival will be held in Term Three and students who progress to this stage will receive further information closer to the date. Below is also a snapshot of the results from each event. Congratulations and well done to everyone.
