Sustainability

On 3rd March, Old Orchard joined the ‘Step Up to Clean Up’ initiative by having our own Clean Up Old Orchard Day.
Clean Up Australia inspires and empowers communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment.
What was started over thirty years ago by an "average Australian bloke" who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event.
Of course, Australia's waste challenges can't be solved in just one day, so over the past three decades, Clean Up Australia has evolved into an organisation that works with the community, government and businesses to provide practical solutions to help us all live more sustainably every day of the year.
At Old Orchard, we aim to educate the students to be aware of the rubbish we collect at our school. Clean Up Old Orchard Day will give us the opportunity to discuss the different areas that this rubbish will end up in. For example, paper at school is collected and recycled. However, most other rubbish is sent to landfill. By making students and families aware of the waste, we hope to help our community become more conscious of what waste we bring to school.
