Our musicians have been in demand!

Open Day – thank you to all our talented musicians and ensemble directors (Mrs Stella Talati, Mr Geoff Power, Miss Laura Power, Mr Shane Cranney, Mr Ian Talati and Mr David Sismey, as well as Mr Stephen Cummins as our sound engineer) who so generously gave of their time on Saturday to entertain the crowds at Open Day. Our musicians created such a wonderful atmosphere throughout the school grounds. I received many comments from staff, current and prospective parents about how wonderful the music was. There was a lot of toe-tapping by the appreciate audiences! The standard was excellent across the ensembles, and it certainly seemed like more of a concert than an open rehearsal. Thank you also to the Year 12 students who rehearsed their performance pieces and demonstrated their compositions in the Music classrooms and studios. Bravo!

Cocurricular Assembly – thank you to Max Lenton, Pat Frost and Aaron Lau for providing entertainment before Friday’s Cocurricular Assembly. This is a great opportunity for our musicians to perform in front of a captive audience and any students who may wish to perform should contact Mrs Westhoff.

Major Works Day, Friday 17 March – our Year 12 students enthusiastically embraced this special opportunity to be able to focus on preparing their Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension composition, musicology and performance works ready for assessment this week. We were also fortunate to have the composition expertise of Mr Stephen Cummins and Mr Matt Thomson on hand to mentor these students in the final stages of their compositions and portfolios.

Senior Chorale – a big thank you to our Senior Chorale members who led the singing at the Year 5 and 6 Bible Liturgy on Tuesday.

Callum Stephens ex-student performs at the College

Thank you to Mr Dan Quilty for inviting me to watch ex-Drama student Callum Stephens (2018) perform at the English incursion Poetry in Action last week. Callum was a Year 12 student when I joined the college and was awarded our very first OnSTAGE nomination for his exemplary Individual Project: Monologue - The Average Man. It was brilliant to see Callum on stage in the Sarto, albeit on a very very hot day! He has just finished a 3 Year Acting course at the prestigious Actors Centre and this is his first professional job.

Senior Students Excursion

On Thursday evening senior Drama students went to the Roslyn Packer Theatre to see The Sydney Theatre Company's latest play.

Major Project Day for the HSC

Year 12 Drama students worked hard on Friday on their Individual Projects with actor and writer Tom Mesker. We have 10 students performing a monologue of 6-8 minutes, plus 1 Video Drama and 1 student writing Theatre Reviews. As NESA does not allocate any class time for the Individual Projects, this day is an essential time for students to obtain advice about the development of each project.

Drama Ensembles

Intermediate Drama – Thanks to the great energy and commitment of the students students who have attended this term. Intermediate Drama Ensemble has finished for this term and will commence again in Week 2 of Term 2.

Junior Drama - Don’t forget to join Elodie for an hour of games and acting activities Friday morning 7:30 am - 8:30 am. Any student in Year 5 or 6 is welcome but please do book.
