Hello Fabulous Year 3 Families,
We would like to start off by congratulating our wonderful students for the way in which they approached NAPLAN. All students tried their best and gave everything a go. We are very proud of the kindness, respect and zest they displayed during the assessment.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been reading the book ‘The Twits’. Our students have been very engaged with this story and have enjoyed listening to it. We have continued to focus on expanding our students' vocabulary and using various comprehension strategies. Students are also working on prefixes and suffixes and learning why and when we add them to a base word.
In Writing students have been learning about persuasive writing and what makes a strong persuasive piece. Students had to come up with a topic, choose their point of view and think of three arguments and three reasons to support their arguments. We have also been learning how to thoroughly edit our writing to ensure we don’t have any mistakes before we publish our writing pieces.
In Numeracy students have been working on addition and the different strategies we can use to solve problems. We are also learning about the link between addition and subtraction and how we can use this link to solve problems. We have also been working on telling time, specifically using ‘quarter to’ and ‘quarter past’.
Through inquiry students have been learning about the difference between rules and laws and why we have them. They have learnt about the consequences of not following rules and laws and designed their own board games to show their understanding of why rules are important when playing games.
