A Message from the Principal

A long weekend is always a great time to get away or catch up on some leisure activities. I certainly enjoyed some extra time in the garden, bike riding and some special dinners with family and friends. It is so important that we are all taking time to look after our physical and emotional selves, as our students are discovering in their Inquiry Learning this term. It is great to hear them discussing the healthy food choices that help nourish and strengthen their growing bodies, while also acknowledging and sharing their feelings to develop their mental wellbeing.

The staff and I have noticed an increasing number of students coming to school tired and sharing that they stay up at night on their devices. I cannot stress enough the importance of locking away devices at night and ensuring that your children are getting a good night's sleep. Primary school aged children are encouraged to be in bed by 7.30pm. Take this time to read some books with them to set up some healthy bedtime routines.

Connecting with our Families through PAM

SIMON and PAM are new platforms that we are have started using to collect student information and manage communication between home and school. Last week all families would have received a noreply email from the school prompting you to set up you Parent Access Module (PAM) account, in order to use this new platform. Please ensure that you set up this account as soon as possible so that we can begin to use the new platform and all of its tools. PAM will be used to approve excursions, medical needs, student reports and more. Please let me know if you have not recieved your email.

Twilight Sports

Last Monday night we enjoyed a fabulous evening as a School Community, at the Twilight Sports. All students participated in both track and field events, sharing their talents and supporting their teams. Our PE Teacher, Rhett Masters did a fantastic job in preparing the students and coordinating the event. Thank-you to all of the parents helpers and to the staff who came along to join in the fun too.

Thank-you to the CA and especially to Sarah Longmore and Steve Gilbert for organising the BBQ.  We collected $1000 in profit on the night including the $500 donation from Barry Plant which will be donated to Caritas in support of the Earthquake Relief for Syria and Turkey.

Thank you to the Barry Plant Eastern Group, especially Michael Steenhuis, for their support with our BBQ and fundraising efforts. They supplied the marquis for the BBQ and also made a $500 donation towards the Turkey and Syria Earthquake appeal.

Thanks also to B.J.s Meats in Ringwood and Bakers Delight, Ringwood North, for donating the sausages and bread for the event.

Congratulations to Riley and Madie for winning the 400 metre events and well done to everyone in the Gold Team for winning this years trophy, as this years champions.

Fire Carriers

We are delighted to announce that we have had a great deal of interest from our Year 5 students who applied to be FIRE carriers. They are Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. As Fire Carriers their role is to promote Indigenous culture and perspectives across the school. They also recognise our Indigenous history at all school events and build greater awareness in the community.

This year we will have a Team of Fire Carriers. Congratulations to all of the following students:

Evie W, Maxwell, Piper, Bella C, Bella L, Lila, Mason, Eleanora and Kirralee.

They will be formally initiated as Fire Carriers at next week's assembly, Monday 2.45pm.

St John's Social Media

I would like to say a huge thank-you to May De Almeida for all of her support with maintaining our social media over the past couple of years. She also set up our new Instagram page and has volunteered her time in keeping the posts updated.

We are now increasing our followers and will begin to use our social media to promote up coming events, reminders and latest news. If you aren't following us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook then it's time to follow us and spread the word amongst your family and friends.

If you could repost and share our latest stories that would be greatly appreciated.

Joke of the Week

Why did the student cross the playground?                                                                          To get to the other slide!

Have a Wonderful short Week!
