Walk and Wheel Wednesdays

On the 24th of March BPPS celebrated National Ride2School Day.  We had such an amazing day.  We had over 80% of the school ride or walk to school.  Congratulations to both 1MC and 1JT who had 100% of their class wheeling to school.  That is an amazing effort.

The early arrivers were awarded with some fresh fruit donated by Balwyn Woolworths.  There was also the chance to ride a smoothie bike donated by the Boroondara Council.  There was a delicious banana smoothie and fresh berry juice that students blended on the bike.

Walk and Wheel Wednesday is a whole school activity, with each class trying to have the most students either walking, wheeling or taking public transport to school.  The winning class is awarded the Shoe Cup Trophy at each assembly.   For those families who live far away from school, they can drive and walk some of the way.

Obviously many needed time to recover from their rides on National Ride2School Day so there weren't as many riders.  On the 29th of March 6LK won with 42% of their class walking or wheeling to school and FSR came in second with 37%.

As well as your class winning the prestigious Shoe Cup Trophy, there are other benefits to walking or wheeling to school such as:

  • Walking and riding bikes is a form of exercise that helps keeps our body and mind healthy and strong.
  • Is an excellent opportunity to learn and practice road safety.
  • Reduces pollution into the air and traffic build up around the school.

3/4R has been writing sensational poems to encourage students to walk and wheel to school

Walk and Wheel is fun to do.

You can do it anyway.

Get your health serious now!

Do walk and Wheel!

Walking or wheeling every Wednesday.

It is so fun so you can play, and I am in the water every day.
