Intermediate Boys Netball

The intermediate boys netball team competed in the Wyndham Finals coming runners up in their first 2 games against strong competition. The team recovered well winning their final 2 games resulting in third place overall. Unfortunately this means they do not proceed to the next round however they should be proud of this result.

Volleyball

In Week 7, both the senior boys and girls volleyball teams had their long-awaited tournament at Eagle Stadium. Both teams were eager to put their skills from Volleyball club to use, and what a day it was! The Senior boys defeated Tarneit, Manor Lakes and Werribee Secondary to make it back-to-back victories and are now through to regionals where they'll be hoping to make it all the way to states.

We had an absolute blast, competing with different schools and really putting our weeks of practice to the test. All in all, whilst both teams should be highly commended for their performance on the day, the senior boys took out the top position, winning all their games and progressing to regionals. A big thanks to Ms Lam, Mr Hand as well as our captains Alesha and Ariyus for all their support and time that they dedicated towards our practice sessions all the way to D-day :)

Lions Youth of The Year - Aanchal Sharma

Year 12 student Aanchal Sharma participated in the first round of the Lions Youth of the Year Program winning three awards, including the event Finalist Winner Award and Public Speaking Award.

She was then selected to the next round, which was Regional level held at Bell Post Hill, where she competed against students from various schools and clubs, including Werribee, Sunshine, Footscray, Geelong Corio Bay and Hamlyn Heights.

During the Regional finals, Aanchal was assessed on an interview, multiple general knowledge questions, impromptu questions, and a prepared speech. Aanchal's speech was particularly impressive as she highlighted the need for schools, workplaces, and health systems to re-evaluate and redesign mental health support services to cater to young people's specific needs.

Assessed on various parameters, including leadership, sporting and cultural interests, community engagement, academic achievements, and public speaking, Aanchal emerged as the winner of the Regional finals and advanced to the District finals held in Ocean Grove. At this stage, students from across Victoria competed for a place in the State level.

The judges were incredibly impressed with Aanchal's exceptional extracurricular activities in school and community involvement. They praised her outstanding public speaking skills, which were evident throughout the competition. The judges congratulated Aanchal on her remarkable achievements.

Lions Club Australia has a proud history in encouraging and fostering leadership skills in Australian students. By emphasising qualities like contribution to the community and school, public speaking, academic skills, sporting and cultural involvement, Youth if the Year aims to bring forth the next generation of outstanding, inspirational young leaders.

Wyndham City Youth Climate Future Leader Summit - Aanchal Sharma

Aanchal Sharma, a passionate Climate Future Leader volunteer for Wyndham City Council, took the initiative to organise and facilitate the Climate Futures Youth Leaders Summit for young people in the Wyndham City Council community. From a young age, Aanchal has been dedicated to protecting the environment and advocating for urgent action in response to the climate crisis. She has actively been involved in initiating programs and opportunities for young people and supporting youth-led initiatives.

On Saturday, 1st April, young people of Wyndham City Council embarked on a journey towards climate action at the Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Centre. The event aimed to raise awareness and educate young people on the impacts and importance of climate change, empowering them to take action. The Summit provided practical ways for young people to engage in conversations, events, and groups, enabling them to get involved in their community.

The Summit's agenda included a smoking ceremony, panel discussions, and workshops on recycling and waste, sustainability, and biodiversity. Panel speakers included Catherine Velisha, Managing Director of Velisha Farms; Amber Troung, Graduate Engineer; Greg Robinson, Senior Healthy Country Project Officer, Aboriginal Water Office; and Dylan Wishart, Local Wyndham Youth Representative. Aanchal was also a member of the panel discussion, facilitating the discussions between panel members and the audience. She also led the Recycling and Waste workshop.

Aanchal played a vital role in coordinating and planning the event alongside other Climate Future Leaders for Wyndham City. She strongly believes that young people can be valuable contributors to climate action and has always dreamed of facilitating a Youth Summit to encourage young people to take action.

Aanchal Sharma's leadership and passion for climate action were evident through her organisation and facilitation of the Climate Futures Youth Leaders Summit. Her dedication to the environment and empowering young people to take action is inspiring and commendable.

This event was led by the Climate Futures Youth Leaders in collaboration with Wyndham City Council. The Climate Futures Youth Leaders are a group of empowered young people aged between 16- 26 advocating for the environment and climate change. They provide support in the planning and delivery of Environmental and Sustainability Events, Programs, Forums and Workshops coordinated by Councils, Climate & Resilience, Waste and Youth Series Teams.
