Bike Education

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Newlands is very excited to be providing Bike Education again this year! Bike Education will happen during weekly PE classes and begins on 14th March 2023. This exciting program will last two weeks. Students will need to bring their own bike and helmet to school and take it home each time. Bikes and helmets need to be in good working order. If your child is riding with training wheels, please keep them on.

Before your child leaves home please make sure: helmet fit, firm tyres, check the brakes, check for loose bits and bolts, wiggle the saddle, be heard with a bell and be warm and comfortable. The program will focus on mastering control, bike safety and learning important road rules.

Sessions will take place during PE lessons on the following days:

  • F/1s Amarillo. (Juan, Sophia, Sergio and Angelene) on Friday 17th and Friday 24th March. Bike is required both days.

  • F/1s Azul. (Jacqui, Kate, Rob and Katherine) on Wednesday 15th and Wednesday 22nd March. Bike is required both days.

  • 2/3s on Tuesday 14th and Tuesday 21st March. Bike is required both days.

  • 4/5/6s on Thursday 16th and Thursday 23rd March. Bike is required ONLY on Thursday 23rd March.

Please take bikes and park them behind C-Block. See attached in the map. Our school leaders will be guiding the way and assisting with parking each morning between 8:45am-9:00am. By parking bikes in this area, they will not be visible from the street. Students can take their helmets to their classroom. Bikes will stay here and can be collected at 3.30pm or when you are picking up your child from after school care.

If your child does not have a bike, it would be great if you could borrow one from a neighbour, cousin or friend. We value this program and would love all students to have the experience on bikes if possible. Sorry no scooters for the lessons!

Newlands will celebrate National Ride2School Day on Friday 24th March 2023. Decorate your mode of transport, be as creative as you like! We encourage all students and their families to leave the car at home on this day. However, due to school constructions, bike parade will be cancelled. On this day, the old staff car park will be available for parking students’ bikes.
