Principal’s Message

A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” John A Shedd.

This newsletter edition we have a focus on personal growth.  I am proud of our Grade 5/6 students who attended the recent camp.  As you can see from this newsletter, there were growth moments a plenty.  The swimming carnival, also highlighted this week, was another opportunity for students to challenge themselves.  We had a revised format this year, with the aim of having students sitting on the bleachers as little as possible.  It was very successful and something we will continue in future years.

Marty Ogle came to visit our Grade 5 and 6 students on Tuesday, with the theme ‘Accountability’.  Marty is visiting our younger classes as well, with Peter Mitchell already visiting our Grade 3 and 4 classes.

This newsletter also contains a survey for parents regarding our new school lunches program.  We ask for families to complete this survey to help us achieve our lofty program goals.  With Mr Comino and Mrs Henwood already cooking away in our current canteen space, I am even more confident that the program can be successful.  Please take the time to complete the new Lunch Program Survey here.

We had several farewells for Mrs Anne Tanner last week and again, we wish her every blessing for the future.  We welcome Mrs Annette Fox to the role of Finance Officer at John Paul II.  Annette commenced on Monday this week and there is no doubt that the community will make her feel very welcome.

The front entrance is now accessible after a period where the school was like a rabbit warren.  Unfortunately, we recently experienced a significant theft of electrical cabling in the new hall construction that has delayed the project slightly.  None the less, you can now clearly see the improvements to the entry of the school, and nothing will stop us in our plans!

Again, we issue a reminder to existing and new families about Kindergarten 2024.  It is important that applications are received by May 5, 2023.
