Intermediate Boys Hockey

On Wednesday, 12 November, the Frankston High School Intermediate Hockey team competed in the State Championships at Footscray Hockey Fields.  The competition was split into two pools of four schools with the winner of each pool playing off in the final, for the honour of being crowned State Champions.

The boys were put in an extremely hard pool of Wangaratta High School, Balwyn High School and Nagle College.  Nagle won last year’s State Title with a sudden death stroke (penalty) against Frankston in the final, so it was always going to be hard drawing them in the group stages.

The day started well with a comfortable 5-0 win over Wangaratta in the first game. The second game however was a lot closer, with the boys eventually getting over a very determined and skilled Balwyn High 2-0 in a very hard fought encounter.  After winning the first two games, it came down to the equation of a win or a draw against Nagle to see Frankston play off in the final.  The standard of the game against Nagle was exceptional with both teams playing fantastic hockey in a game fought mainly in the midfield.  The result was a 1-0 win in an amazing display of hockey from both teams.

The final was held at 2:40pm against the winners of the other pool, Warnambool College, who had won all three pool games, easily scoring at least three goals in every game and were going to be hard competition.

Frankston jumped out of the blocks early to establish a 3-0 lead within around five minutes; however, after a deflection goal to Warnambool towards the end of the first half, the game tightened up again.  Frankston settled to eventually win the State Final 5-1 in an open game of great quality.  All the Frankston players performed exceptionally well on the day with some standout performances from Patrick Coates, Oscar Stevenson and some fantastic saves from Damon Tildesley in the final.

Congratulations to Quentin Newton, Sam Ogier, Kyle Turnbull, Tom Banks, Denis Miller, Will Hall, Emmanuel Brima, Jaxon Le Cornu-King, James Portelli, Lachlan Avery, Oscar Stevenson, Damon Tildesley, Kadel Key, Matthew La Fontaine, Levi McLoughlin-Dore and Patrick Coates on their hard work and dedication resulting in a State Championship.

Year 7 Girls Hockey

Only slightly outdone by the Intermediate boys are our Year 7 Girls Hockey team, who on Tuesday became State Runners Up in an epic battle with Maribyrnong Sports College.

These sweet little darlings are demons on the Hockey field and a force to be reckoned with. We are very proud of these girls for their hard work, determination and for being excellent representatives of Frankston High School.

A special mention to assistant coach, Krista Fulton of Year 9, and a huge thank you to Mr Paul Don for his extra assistance in training these girls.

I should also quietly mention that the Year 8 Girls Hockey team were State 3rd.
