Goals for Living Well  Learning Well

We are Valued, Respected and Cared For

The Term 1 theme for Living Well Learning Well at Sacred Heart is 'We Are Safe'.  Each week we unpack a Core Value to remind us of the actions and behaviours to uphold in reaching our goals.

Week 8 Core Value is: ''Reflect Upon Our Words and Actions."

The teacher's unpacked the meaning of the core value words ~ REFLECT; WORDS; ACTIONS

Each student received a paper heart to cut out. The heart is perfect without any creases or damage. While listening to the story, ”Chrysanthemum” by Kelvin Henkes, which is about how words can hurt and can be just as painful as physical contact, each time someone was hurtful to Chrysanthemum (a character in the story) they had to scrunch up the heart. Then they had to try and get the creases out when nice things were said or apologies were made. The heart was never perfect again.

We too are like paper hearts. If our friends say hurtful words it will leave a mark on our heart. It doesn’t matter if they are sorry for their actions and apologise…. we still remember and are hurt by the experience.

BY REFLECTING ON OUR WORDS AND ACTIONS ……….

  • It challenges us to take a step back to analyse our personal experiences to enhance learning and speculate upon the future and act.

Reflective practice gives a better understanding of why things happen. It assists you to recognise good practice as well as change and improve what is not working well.
