Principal’s Message

Mrs Katherine Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week is looking to be quite a productive time of the term.

Personalised Plan meetings will be held for Yr 3-6 this Tuesday 14 March. Parents of children concerned have been notified. These meetings are held for 25 minutes and will focus on co-planning learning goals and classroom adjustments for your child. As a result you will not need to arrange a Parent Teacher Interview later in the term when these are scheduled.

Parent Teacher Interviews for Term 1 will occur on Tuesday 28 March. Interviews will be of a ten minute duration and will take place during the day. A Conference event will be sent out for you to make your bookings.

NAPLAN assessments this year have been moved from May to MARCH. The NAPLAN assessments will commence this Wednesday. If yur child is in Year 3 or 5, they will participate in NAPLAN. Please ensure that your child has had plenty of rest the night before and a good breakfast the morning of each assessment. It is important to remember that while NAPLAN is one of the metrics that we use to track student progress, it is not the only metric to track progress. Students have been well prepared for the assessments and will no-doubt give of their best. Parents and students are encouraged to approach these assessments in a calm manner. Please go to the Important Information tab for a detailed description about NAPLAN and the dates of each assessment.

On Wednesday we will be celebrating St Patrick's Day with a Parish/school Mass commencing at 12:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.

This Friday will be St Patrick's Day and for a gold coin donation all students may wear an element of green with their school uniform, for example: a green ribbon, scrunchie or socks. All funds raised will go towards Project Compassion.

Transition for 2024 Kindergarten students will commence on Thursday 27 April (Week 1 Term 2). To assist with the beginning of the transition program we will be holding the following events at the end of this term:

Tuesday 21 March - Enrolment meetings for students commencing Kindergarten in 2024. Please contact the office to book in your time.

Thursday 30 March - Parent Information Session 9:15 am - 10 am. At this time, the new Transition students will be in the K-2 classroom participating in an Easter Hat craft activity.

Thursday 6 April- Transition students join in the Easter Hat parade, with their hats from 9am- 9:30am.

It is with great sadness to let you know that Gary McSweeney passed away on Saturday afternoon after a battle with cancer. He will be fondly remembered for his unwavering commitment to sport, Catholic education and his friends. Gary made a significant contribution to Catholic education in the Diocese of Armidale and will be greatly missed. He was instrumental in supporting our school in coordinating the building works that were completed here at Sacred Heart last year. For this we are incredibly grateful.

May eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he Rest in Peace. Amen.

If you know of anyone wishing to enrol their child for 2024 and participate in the transition program this year, please let me know. Program details and enrolment forms are available by contacting Ms Traynor in the Office.

If you know of anyone who is intending to enrol at Sacred Heart either in Kindergarten or any other year group for 2023, please encourage them to contact me at school.

Take care,

Kath Baird
