MANAGING BULLYING AT ST JOSEPH'S COLLEGE

According to the Reach Out.com website bullying is what ‘happens when a person or a group of people repeatedly and intentionally use words or actions to cause distress and harm to another person’s wellbeing. It isn’t the same as a ‘normal’ conflict between people (such as having an argument or a fight) or simply disliking someone. It is more about repeated behaviour by someone who has power or control over someone else.’

At St Joseph’s College Pastoral Care programs are implemented in each year level to address such issues. Specifically, in Year 7, our curriculum includes Respectful Relationships which identifies what bullying looks like, how to respond and support strategies. The WOW program, implemented in Term 3, also explored this topic. Next week, Wellbeing staff will meet with classes to reiterate avenues of support. In Term 4 the College will present a parent information session on bullying and how to assist children.

The College has a zero tolerance policy for bullying. Students choosing to behave inappropriately will be managed as per our Behaviour Management Process.

Please contact Homeroom teachers, House Leaders or Wellbeing staff at any stage if you have concerns.

Working collaboratively with parents, teachers, internal and external support agencies will aid students in understanding the expectations of not only the College but the wider community.
