VCAL News

It has been a great start to the year. The year 11 students are working their way through their new chosen pathway which will take them to the end of their formal high school training. At the end, students will leave school with a senior VCAL certificate and a VET certificate for their chosen course. It really gives students a head start when they leave school, as they will leave with 2 qualifications.  The biggest change that VCAL students will face this year is that all set work is to be completed and submitted online. It is important that we prepare our students for the future and that they know how to navigate our ever evolving “technology” to gain work and qualifications for the future.  The curriculum that we cover in VCAL is all real life content, preparing the students for life. This term we are covering driver safety and preparing students for undertaking their Learners or Probationary license.

The year 12 VCAL students have really begun the year well. They are focused and dedicated to their final year at high school, making the most of all of the learning opportunities that are offered, before they begin their journey outside of school next year.

So far this year, VCAL students have participated in 2 excursions. On Monday 4th March, they attended Glen Harrow High Ropes in Belgrave. It was a team building exercise and was a great opportunity to put students out of their usual comfort zones and rely on their peers to support them during this time of vulnerability.

On Friday 15th March, students had the opportunity to attend the Grand Prix. The students attended the Safe driving pavilion, had an opportunity to engage in a variety of STEM activities, including drones and VR.  They also got the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different setting outside of school.
