Book Week
Despite the rain and cold weather this morning, nothing was going to dampen the spirits of the staff, parents and students who took part in our annual Book Week Parade. Book Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate literature and the whole school participates in a range of activities associated with the Children’s Book Awards. This year was a wonderful event with so many parents, careers and Grandparents joining us. We had so many creative interpretations of various books and their characters
A feature of our Book Week celebrations is when we invite Parents/Grandparents to watch the parade, visit our classes in operation, and share morning tea with us. My thanks are extended to the organising committee led by Stef Galvin and supported by the staff, for their work in planning and organizing an excellent event. I would also like to acknowledge Irene Dimarelos and the other parents who organised a magnificent morning tea, to the choir for performing and to Mel Katz for being our MC.
Helicopter Lifts New Equipment
The supermarket ALDI is about to refurbish the store at Warringal Shopping Centre. In order to increase the capacity of the freezers in the store, new condensers had to be installed on the Warringal Shopping Centre roof. Many of our students saw a helicopter fly over our school and perform four lifts, as the new equipment was raised onto the Warringal roof. Great entertainment for those students who go to Before Age Care.
Peter Ruff Recognised for Outstanding Career
This week the Leader newspaper feature one of our teachers and recognised his contribution to education over such a long period of time. Congratulations to Peter Ruff our Science teacher.
Parking in the Morning
This week we have had two serious incidents that led me to ask for Police assistance to ensure our children are safe as they come to school. Despite repeated requests to use our five minute zone correctly and to not double park when dropping students off, the police had to issue warnings around these potential offences. The Banyule Council Officers have been contacted and will be patrolling our school. In a busy street such as Cape Street double parking places so many people at risk.
Payne Family Adventures
Two of our students recently went with their family to Europe. When they got to the city of Heidelberg in Germany they took some photos to share with us and have produced a news report highlighting the differences between the two places. This is on the school television highlights. Kayley and Zac noticed how old the buildings are and discovered that Heidelberg in Germany was founded in 1196. It is famous for the Heidelberg University and large castle. Great work Kayley and Zac.

A reminder that the Father’s Day Stall will be held on Friday 30th August. Children will have the opportunity to purchase a gift(s) from the Father’s Day Stall. Items will be priced from $1:00 to $5:00.
