Campus Stories

Water Play
The Campuses came together last week for some friendly competition whilst enjoying the amazing environment we live within.
The Year 1 to Year 3 students hit the foreshore for their annual Beach Carnival. This is an event that has been long established at the College, and with such a beautiful place to call home, it makes a wonderful day of making friends, playing in the water, and for parents to enjoy celebrating their children.
The Year 11 and Year 12 Outdoor Education VET students and Primary School student councillors were on hand helping run events and providing support for staff. It was wonderful to see the cross-school collaboration unfolding.
Not to be left out, the Pre-Primary students from Dunsborough travelled to Busselton to have a day of water play in the Early Learning Centre. Once again, a fabulous opportunity to develop friendships and have a whole lot of fun along the way.
Well done staff, parents, student leaders and students for making the day so special.
Secondary Mini Olympics
Just over a week ago, it was a hive of activity at school. As seen above, the littlest students were at the foreshore for their annual Beach Carnival, and not to be outdone, the Secondary students had a Mini Olympics of their own on the College grounds.
The Secondary event was organised by Year 12 student, Abbey Stokes, and with the support of the student leaders across all houses the four factions took each other on in a range of fun activities. There was Tug of War, Three Legged Race, Egg and Spoon Race and Canoe Races.
Well done everyone. The morning was just brilliant.
Swim!
The College's new swimming caps have launched into the pool in recent days, and gave the interschool swimming team something further to unite their training efforts.
We are grateful to have staff who took on the challenge of preparing selected students for last week's competition, and they were able to present each participant with a swimming cap that clearly identifies the Cornerstone brand.
Thanks Mr Meyerink for being the driving force behind this new addition to the College uniform, and for capturing a picture of our swimmers at training.
Go Cornerstone!
Pi Day
Celebrated globally on March 14th (3/14), Pi Day is an annual opportunity for maths enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to their friends about maths, and to eat Pie.
So, Mr Cameron's Year 7s launched into the day attempting to create a chain that reflected the first two thousand places in Pi - with each chain link representing a particular digit. The chain was crafted throughout the day, and laid out in the undercover area to give a visual representation of this particular mathematical marvel.
The canteen got into the spirit of it and pies were also on the menu. With orders for almost half the school population, it was busy. What can you expect though when every mathematician's favourite food is Pi(e).
Not to be outdone, Mrs Moorcroft's students were making their own Aussie Pies in Home Economics. A fantastic day of celebrating the wonders of Maths.
ACC Swimming Carnival
A report from Mr Cleaver.
Cornerstone (Year 7-12) took a team of 40 students to HBF Stadium Monday 19th March to compete in the H Division Carnival. Despite some travel sickness and the early start to the day, the students performed admirably in their races. The level of competition was an eye opener for our students, competing against bigger schools with students who train in swim clubs - in 50m pools! Overall we finished 7th out of the 9 teams and were pleased with the results. Next year we hope to improve on this result so we encourage all students to consider joining a swim club for their fitness levels but also to take their abilities to the next level. A special mention to Maddison Stolp (Year 10) who competed in her own category and achieved two personal best times. Her determination in training and resilience to overcome challenges are an inspiration to many. We were very proud of her.
Also, big thanks to Mr Arthur for his organisation of the team and preparation for the day, and the parents and students who assisted at the carnival. We are blessed to have some amazing helpers.
Mr Cleaver.
Year 8 Woodwork Wonders
Well, the Year 8s have taken to Woodwork like ducks to water. Look at what Mr Taylor's class is in the process of finishing!
Brilliant work team.
Year 2s Jetty Inquiry
This report in from Miss H:
This term the Year 2 class are inquiring into the history of the Busselton Jetty. Last week we had the pleasure of having several lovely grandparents, including Mrs Sully and Mr Chapman, come in and share their childhood memories of the jetty. It was very interesting hearing about how the jetty has changed over the years. Mr Chapman told us that there used to be a slide on the jetty and he enjoyed going down it. He also said that he remembers watching the steam train go out on the jetty to take goods to the big ships.
Mrs Sully told us all about Cyclone Alby and how it broke the jetty and the damage that it caused Busselton and surrounding areas. We learnt that it ruined many homes and businesses and that it broke a lot of the Jetty. Mrs. Sully told us that the only reason that the jetty got fixed was because local people fought to save it.
We also had Alice's Grandmother and Great Grandmother come in to talk about their memories of the Jetty too. We loved what they had to share.
We loved having you all come in and share your stories and time with us. Thank you!
