Year 8 Boys Expedition

Last week our Year 8 Boys headed out to Dungowan for their annual expedition. The boys were confronted with experiences that challenged them physically, mentally and emotionally as they considered the journey of “boy to man”, and the characteristics that a man of character possesses. The boys were brilliantly led by Mr Starr, Mr Leech and Mr Lange, and it was a privilege for Mrs Blinman and me to visit during the week. Whilst the expedition did test the boys’ resilience, perseverance, selflessness, resourcefulness, integrity and inclusiveness, they had a marvellous time together achieving outcomes that they will carry forward with them into their remaining time at Calrossy and life after school. Well done boys! Head to the Hub for a full photo gallery.

Year 11 GRIP Leadership

This week our School Leaders accompanied Mrs Cameron, Mr Howey and Mrs Heywood to the GRIP Leadership workshop at Wests Leagues. This is a workshop with which schools right across the country engage to develop and support student leaders and to grow a culture of service and leadership in schools. The Calrossy Student Leaders joined the school leaders from around the North West to be challenged about what leadership is and how they might contribute to leadership in their school contexts. We look forward to all that our 2020 Student Leaders have to contribute to Calrossy over the next 12 months.

Student Behaviour

At the start of Term 3, a consolidated and consistent framework for managing student behaviour across our campuses in the Secondary School was introduced. The intent of this framework is to support and foster our school values of Selflessness, Integrity, Resilience and Inclusiveness, as well as promoting a learning environment that encourages best learning outcomes for all our students and teachers.

Calrossy Anglican School has a reputation for being a school of high standards and expectations. Our families choose to send their children to Calrossy for the opportunities, the academic outcomes, the Christ values and the high standards and expectations.

Rules for responsible classroom behaviour:

Do the right thing;

Say the right thing;

Bring the right thing.

For our students to achieve all of these goals, it is very important that families support the school in upholding our standards and partner with us to bring about these best outcomes for your children.

The framework that has been put in place supports behaviour management around two key principles – “positive choices bring about positive outcomes” and restorative relationship processes.

The framework includes Demerits (warnings for minor misdemeanours and uniform infringements) that encourage behavioural change without penalty, Lunchtime Detentions for classroom misbehaviour, more substantial infractions and some repeated low level infringements; and After School Detentions for more serious infringements and repeated behaviour and presentation infractions. After School Detentions (ASD) will be held on the Brisbane St Campus from 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon. It is expected that students will attend these detentions on the date given.

Detentions will consist of the opportunity for students to reflect on their behaviour, the choices they have made and how the choices they make in the future might better align with the School Values. Detentions are an opportunity to learn for each and every student and it is the School’s goal to provide students with the opportunity to learn from their poor choices and to support to make better choices in the future.
