Semester 2 Class Captains

A huge congratulations to the Semester 2 Class Captains (see attached) who were awarded their certificates and badges at Assembly this week. There will also be a formal acknowledgement of their work at the final School Assembly in December.

Parent Teacher Interviews

I do hope that many of you found the time to attend the Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews. It is important that your child see you take an interest in their school life. It also provides an opportunity for teachers to meet parents, which is always a nice thing.

Homework Club and Maths Assist

Homework Club and Maths Assist are both running this term. These are voluntary attendances, however, if you feel that your child needs more time or help, please encourage them to attend. Homework Club is on Tuesdays and Thursdays in D11. Maths Assist is on Wednesdays in D6.

Start Smart Program

The Start Smart Program was on again this week for Year 8 and Year 9 students. This program is run at school by the Commonwealth Bank. It is a financial literacy program, and gets students to start thinking about saving money, purchases they make, part time work etc. Trying to get them to think long term and the priorities they have for their life.

Cybersaftey Presentation

All Dunhelen students (and some parents) attended a presentation by Brett Lee on Cybersafety on Tuesday. Brett Lee worked as a Queensland Police Officer for 22 years, of which 16 were as a detective in the field of Child Exploitation. He also created the Internet Education and Safety Services (INESS). A service set up to equip and educate children with the skills and knowledge to use the internet safely. More information is available at www.internetsafeeducation.com. All too often students get caught up with what is happening online and do not stop to think of the consequences of posting things or responding to posts. Hopefully, the students took some of what Brett Lee said on board and continue to make right choices when communicating online. Please do discuss with your child things that they (or you) may have learnt from the presentation.

2019 Year 9 Camp

Year 8 students will soon be bringing home the Year 9 Camp consent form. Please do read it through with your child, fill it in correctly and return to school as soon as possible. Once again, we will be heading off to Central Australia, leaving on 25 May 2019 and returning on 31 May 2019. This camp provides students with a real opportunity to see our wonderful country, to explore things that students may have covered in class, to develop independence and resilience and to build many beautiful memories with their friends before heading into Senior School.
