MUSIC NEWS

It has been a great fortnight in the Music Department.

CONCERT AT CLAREMONT TERRACE

Congratulations to Ms Kirk and the Year 9 Music Performance students who presented an all-too-brief concert to the residents at Claremont Terrace on Tuesday 29 October.

The assembled crowd were highly impressed by the level of musicianship presented and were left wanting more.  We look forward to the continuing journey that these budding musicians will take us on.

CLARINET MEGA DAY

Congratulations to the 52+ students who participated in the ”Clarinet Mega Day” on Wednesday 6 November.  Students from both McKinnon Secondary College and Frankston High School took part in the highly successful day organised by Ms Su Rogerson and Mr Peter Sharp (from Frankston High School).  A concert from both schools was held showcasing the Clarinet Choirs and Junior Clarinet Ensembles.  A full workshop group performed a new work written especially for the event by Ms Rogerson, which was the finale for the day.  Thank you to Melbourne Brass and Woodwind for adding to the collection of the many novel, unusual and interesting clarinets that were on display for the day.

YEAR 10 MUSIC NIGHT

The Year 10 Music Night held on Tuesday 12 November 2013, was a fantastic success where the students demonstrated a professional approach to their music.

Parents, friends and teachers were delighted by the musical choices of the students. Congratulations to all the students involved Thank you also to Nick Xanthoudakis for organising sound and lighting for the evening.

AMEB EXAMS

AMEB exams have been held throughout the country over the past few weeks and we are very impressed and proud of the McKinnon Students who took part in this process.  We are particularly proud of the fact that half of the students who presented for an exam were awarded “Honours“ (A) or higher.  Congratulations to the following students who achieved “High Distinction” (A+) for their performance exams:  Alexia Samiotis – 8th Grade Flute; Stuart Higham – 4th Grade Trombone and Arran Dunbar – 4th Grade Trumpet.

MUNCH THEN MUSIC CONCERT (FINAL)

We are also impressed with the continuing development of performance skills in students in the Munch then Music concert series.  The final of this concert series will be held in the Alan Lawrence Lecture Theatre tomorrow (Friday 15 November).  Thank you to the dedication of Mr Baltazar Kurowski for continuing this highly successful program.

JUNIOR CONCERT

The Junior Concert will be held on Wednesday 4 December in the School Hall at 7:00pm.  This will be the final concert for the year and we look forward to celebrating the end of the musical year with all students, parents and friends.

LABEL INSTRUMENTS CLEARLY

It is important that students label personal instruments clearly with their complete name and a contact number when storing these in the Music Centre.

The Choir and the Senior Singers are singing at three Christmas concerts in December - feel free to come and celebrate the Christmas spirit with us!

  • Sunday 8 December, we are singing on stage from 3.30pm – 4:00pm at Higgins Reserve in Higgins Rd (by the Bentleigh / McKinnon Youth Centre) for the pre-concert entertainment for the City of Glen Eira's 'Carols In The Park'.  There will be food and heaps of stalls available for extra interest.
