YEAR 8 CAMP

On 30 November over 300 Year 8 students boarded buses to Rawson, east of Melbourne excited for the variety of activities that the camp had to offer.  The first day included bushwalking, canoeing, archery, abseiling, flying fox, beach volleyball, initiatives, commando course and high ropes.  After dinner, students prepared for the Halloween themed bush dance.  Everyone dressed up and students in onezies, blood splattered vampires, devils and witches took to the dance floor.

It was an early start the next day that mattered most, this was the day of the Amazing Race.  The race was situated in Walhalla, a historic gold rush town. Students were put to the test mentally, physically and emotionally, aiming for the highest honour of winner of the Survivor challenge.

Our last evening saw the year level competing in trivia, chilling out in the Recreation room or playing an intense table tennis tournament. Come Friday morning, we were all exhausted, however we piled into the assembly room, and the presentations commenced.  Awards went out to best dressed, fastest timing on the commando course and other well earned awards.  But now it was time for survivor!  All through the year forms and island groups worked hard, and finally the results were paying off.  As students waited in anticipation, Mr Long finally announced that the McKinnon Secondary College 2013 Survivor winners were… 8H!!  This camp couldn't have been possible without all the teachers, so thank you to everyone who made the year 8 camp an unforgettable one.
