Library News

A message from our librarian Mrs Gale

Welcome back to another fabulous year in the library. I am so excited to be the teacher librarian this year at Ben Venue. I would like to thank Mrs Bulmer for all her hard work last year, setting up many new areas in the library and growing the book collections, especially in the area of graphic novels which are extremely popular.

If your child forgets to bring their books or bag on their library day, the library is open every morning from 8:40am - 9:00am and also at lunch should they wish to return and borrow then. Students are encouraged to return and borrow books to ensure they always have a book to enjoy and to encourage a love of reading and lifelong learning.

This term in the library, Early Stage 1 is focussing on developing an understanding of library procedures and expectations. They are learning how to take care of books, what to do when we are browsing books as well as the difference between fiction and non-fiction.

Stage 1 have begun to sample a range of short fiction series such as Billie B Brown, Zac Power and Hey Jack!). They continue to develop their understanding of how these books are different from single stories.

Stage 2 is exploring the quality literature of Margaret Wild. By examining some of her books, they are learning how authors choose their words carefully and how these words make us feel about the characters in the book.

Stage 3 is currently working on an inquiry project about the oceans of the world. This will help further improve their note taking skills as well as reinforcing skills in searching for credible information when researching. These students will be using Google Sites to publish their information.
