Boarding Report

Merrin Shannon

We’ve had a wonderful start to the year with an influx of new boarders this term. Numbers of fulltime and weekly boarders are up, and several new staff have joined the team, including several key staff from the Student Wellbeing Team.

We welcome five new students from Daly River and welcome back our current Daly River student Brent Mullins. Timothy Wommatakimmi from Bathurst Island has also joined our Boarding house and has rapidly settled into life in COLD Hamilton. Colleen Page has been appointed as our Indigenous Co-ordinator and Colleen will be working closely with these students, in addition to our current Indigenous cohort.

On Tuesday the 31st of January the Gunditjmara people formally welcomed the Daly River Mob to our country with a ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony performed by elder Uncle John Lovett. It was a moving ceremony with many community members present to help welcome our Daly River and Bathurst Island students and their families.

Our Boarding Captains, Tom and Emma have been planning new and exciting activities and most nights the students have been ‘flat out’ in the stadiums playing basketball or swimming. It looks like a very busy and exciting year ahead with many new friendships already formed.

I have had several enquiries for casual boarding. Casual boarding is $80 per night and can be arranged by emailing the Head of Boarding Merrin Shannon. mshannon@monivae.vic.edu.au
