MATHS COMPETITIONS

Throughout the year, the Mathematics Learning Area offers many opportunities for students to challenge themselves and extend their interest in Mathematics. The following competitions are provided through the Australian Mathematics Trust. Students can express their interest in participating in these competitions by emailing me rtam@sjcmda.vic.edu.au

 

ICAS competitions are also offered later in the year, and more information about ICAS, including ICAS Maths, is yet to come.

 

Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) Competition 

2–4 May 2023

Open to all students

This one-hour problem-solving competition is designed to encourage student curiosity and promote multiple modes of thinking.

 

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC)

2–4 August 2023

Open to all students

This is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives.

 

Maths Challenge 

Held over four weeks in Term 2

Open to students in Years 7–10

This challenge involves working on six multi-step problem-solving questions. Participating students will be withdrawn from class for one period per week over the four weeks to work on the challenge. They can work individually or with a partner also registered for the challenge. This challenge requires a commitment to work on the problems at home and during school hours.
