Senior Hooptime Finals

The Year 5/6 team (pictured above) represented St Cecilia's at the Senior Futures Stars Hooptime regional finals last Monday. The team had a great day and despite some early close losses managed to win the final. Excitingly, this means that they will now go through to the State Finals next month. A very big thank you to the boys from De La Salle who again came along to coach and support our students.

Reflections on Junior Hooptime Finals

I think my team and I played really well in hooptime basketball. In our first game we didn’t know what to expect, but in the end it was a close game and we were happy we won. In our second game, we were versing our friends. Our coach told us not to mess around and to think of them as opponents that we don’t know. We knew it would be a tight game because in basketball training from previous days we lost one and also won one. Thankfully, in the end and we got the win although it was a tight game.

When we were told that the team we were playing in the next game was undefeated, all of us started to panic but still stayed positive. The end result was a draw. In our last game we started off really well but in the second half the other team got a lot of hope and shot three goals in a row. Then we were able to return with another two goals which we really needed and definitely secured our win. Overall our team played really well and it was because of our teamwork that we had a really great day.

At Hooptime on Wednesday, the year 3s and 4s competed in basketball...It was amazing! Both teams tried their best and did a great job. One of the teams, The Stars made it through to the next round.

The highlight was seeing everyone having fun and the great sportsmanship and teamwork!

Thank you Mrs Galgani for organising the day and making sure everything and everyone was ready to go and a thank you to the coaches who took time to come and coach the teams!

At last, thank you to Mr Mooney and Voula for also taking their time to come and support us.

On Wednesday St Cecilia’s Stars and Suns went to the State Basketball Centre to compete in the Regionals. It was a really fun day and we all did a great job working together as a team. We all shared sportsmanship, determination and most of all we supported each other. We say thank you to the teachers who organised it and came with us. Also we say thank you to our Year Six coaches, they really supported us and made it a great day.

Basketball Banters

St Cecilia's Suns & Stars basketball teams met at 8.20 am on Wednesday 12th October in the Murphy Hall, to change into basketball uniforms and discuss game strategies. We travelled by bus to the State Basketball Stadium in Wantirna, ready to rock ‘n’ roll for the Regional finals. The teams were all set to play. The Stars played The Patch Pacers first and the Suns played Holy Trinity Taipans (one of the best I’ve seen in junior basketball leagues!) There were 6 teams in all competing in the round robin, with 2 spots to automatically qualify for the State finals. The leaderboard showed just how tight the scores were between the teams. It all came down to one game - St Cecilia’s Suns v The Patch Pacers. The scores were tight 5 to 6 but in the end The Patch Pacers won with a final score of 16 to 6. But luckily the St Cecilia’s Stars still made it through to State Basketball finals.

Well played by all St Cecilia’s players!

Division Athletics

On Wednesday we had a record breaking 16 students make it through to represent St Cecilia's at the Divison Athletics Championships. Despite extremely wet conditions, the students had a great day and competed extremely well. We had a number of really fantastic results.

Lucy Reed progressed to the next stage in both the 800m and 1500m and Alice Gallagher qualified in the 100m.

A very, very big thank you to Kate Sutherland, Teresa Galgani and all the parents who provided support throughout the day.

As you can see it has been a very busy time in sport. Many thanks to Clint and Teresa for all the planning and organisation. They have put in a lot of work to make these events possible.

There are a number more exciting sports events coming up inculding further Hooptime finals, futsal days and our whole school Sports Day coming up on November 28. Stay tuned for more details.
