Learning, growing and celebrating together...

Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,

A Grandparents’ love is strong and deep, filled with memories to treasure and keep’

At our Grandparents and Special Friends Mass this morning, we celebrated the gift of Grandparents and all of the people who play an important and special role in our lives. It was very lovely to be able to share this occasion with so many of our beloved Grandparents and Special Friends.

We were all reminded just how lucky we are to have shared time with these people in our lives, however long or short a period we have had them by our side. These people have guided and taught us many things, shaped us, showered us with hugs and spoiled us rotten. They watch over us as we grow and are some of the most important teachers in our lives. They are wise, having lived through and experienced many changes in our world. They continue to model the gift of love, kindness and care to us each and every day.

‘Help us to be more like our Grandparents’

Looking around the Church and MPR this morning, I couldn’t help but think about my own Grandparents, who unfortunately left this earth many moons ago. Memories of times shared together, trips to the shops and movies, lunches and swims at the beach, birthday presents and outings, phone calls and sleep overs, lollies, food, footy cards, more lollies, brown paper bags of shiny $2 coins, the list of moments and experiences are endless. As a child, the items that were given or the experiences that I had were the main things that stood out to me. They were the things I loved. Nowadays, as a 'nearly' fully fledged adult, these things matter less so. The memories that remain are of how these occasions that I spent with my Grandparents made me feel.

I was safe.

I was loved.

My Grandparents made me feel like I was the most important and only person on the planet.

Dear Lord, we ask you to bless our Grandparents and Special Friends who tell us stories about our family and stories about how our world has changed.

Our Grandparents and Special Friends always have time for us and love us no matter what. They listen to us and want to know all about what we do.

We thank God for them and we remember the impact they have had on us every day.

Our Grandparents and Special Friends are a very precious gift to us. They have taught us to be true followers of Jesus. Amen.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.

Kind Regards,
