Year 2 News

This term the, Year 2 students have been learning about Perimeter and Area as part of Measurement. The students were especially excited when they were asked to create a robot and work out the area of the robot’s body using grid paper. Students made creative and colourful robots to display in the classrooms.

 

Year 6 Sailing

The Year 6 Sailing program will commence this term at The Boatshed, Albert Park. The program has been designed as an introduction to sailing and at the completion, each participant should be able to achieve the following:

  • Steering with tiller extension
  • Be able to turn around (tacking, gybing)
  • Comfortably reach around a figure of 8 course using both ways of turning
  • Be able to sail up wind, assisted by power boat 
  • Be able to sail downwind using a follow the leader method
  • Participate in a capsize
  • Participate in rescue drills
  • Learn the 3 safety rules while on the water
  • Be able to identify the no go zone and the effects it has on your sailing
  • A basic understanding of currents and tides
  • Basic wind awareness of direction and strength
  • Learn respect and care for a boat

Lessons will be completed on 28 Oct, 4 Nov, 11 Nov, 25 Nov, 1 Dec

Scholastic Rewards

Thank you for your support in purchasing books from the Book Fair and Book Club this year. For each purchase, our school receives Scholastic Rewards. This year we have used the Rewards to purchase Key Links Guided Reading sets of fiction and nonfiction texts for classroom use. 

Term 4 Testing

This term, classroom teachers will be released to complete end of year assessment and testing with all students in English and Mathematics. Assessments will be a combination of online and written tests. Year 1-6 students will complete online Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in Reading and Mathematics. The data will assist teachers in monitoring student growth over the past year and help identify areas for future learning. Student progress and achievements will be available through the Semester 2 Reports in December.
