From the Principal

Mrs Cathy Ferrari

Dear families

We have much to celebrate this fortnight, as it has been action packed.  On Tuesday we welcomed our 2023 Prep students and their families to our St Mary's Primary School family. This is always a very special occasion and a privilege to be working in partnership with each family as they commence their primary school journey. Our current Preps looked very grown up walking to another classroom so that the new Preps could be in their 2023 environment. The children were very settled as were their parents and carers! We look forward to seeing them again on Tuesday 8th November at 9:30am and their parents/carers at our wine and cheese information session that evening from 7-8pm.

Yesterday the sun shone and the school was awash with red, white and green.  It was fantastic to see the design and creativity of so many of the costumes. We thank Signora Vozzo supported by Anthony Speranza for the organisation enabling such a wonderful day. The students participated in many activities ranging from the arts, the sporting arena and learning a traditional Italian dance. It was a delight watching the older students supporting the younger students and vice-a versa as all our groups had students from Prep to Year 6. Thank you to our amazing staff for their energy and sense of fun and to the parents and carers that came up to school to help with the pizza and gelato.  Malto bene tutti!

2022 Deputy Principal Conference

We will miss Anthony today and tomorrow as he gathers with the Deputy Principals in the Southern Region. The focus for the 2022 conference is Positive Psychology presented by Danielle Jacobs and Faith Formation with Andrew Chinn. These conferences are so important in building our knowledge and capacity to lead our community.  Wellbeing continues to be a major focus as outlined in our School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plan. Having the opportunity to meet with colleagues and learn about other schools' practices is also very important. We look forward to seeing him on Monday.

Term 4 - Sun Hats are compulsory

A gentle reminder that hats must be worn by students and staff at both break times now that we are in Term 4. Please make sure that your child/children's hats are named so that they can be returned if misplaced. Students without hats must sit in the shade for the break.

Monday 31st October 2022

Please remember that Monday 31st October is a Student Free Day as the staff work on their reports for Semester Two. The next day is our Cup Day public holiday. This four day break gives families a chance to have a mini break/school free structured time as we return to many events and activities as we head towards Christmas.

Topping up the sandpit

Last week our Preps helped Steve and Cal fill up our sand pit. They were terrific helpers and worked very hard. Many more creations can now be made in the sandpit, which is a hive of activity at first and second break.

Celebrating learning highlights

Finally my favourite part of being a Principal. Miss Jacquie called and said " Mrs Ferrari could one of the students come and share their reading with you, as they are progressing so well."

I responded, " How wonderful, I would love that."  Congratulations to Mason for his progress in reading. The pride on his face as he read to me summed up the magic of working in education.

God Bless each of you,

Cathy
