Transition and Pathways

Hi MCC Community

It has been a busy term and next term will also be busy. Students have been selecting subjects for next year and interest in School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) is growing.

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)

Students are able to commence a SBAT in Year 10. A traineeship is completed within two years. This means those who commence in Year 10 will have Year 12 to concentrate on their other subjects as their traineeship will have been completed at the end of Year 11.

An apprenticeship is begun at school and each school year equates to 6 months of the apprenticeship. This means, if a student begins in Year 10, they will have completed 18 months of their apprenticeship by the end of Year 12. Some students choose to leave school and take on their apprenticeship full time.

SBATs are a good way for young people to slowly transition into a career. The statistics for completion of a full time apprenticeship are concerning, with 42% incompletion rate, that’s almost half of all apprentices are not completing.

If you are considering a SBAT, the first step is to find an employer. The employer will ask you to do some work experience first, and all going well, will offer you an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Wishing all MCC community a safe and restful holiday.

See you in Term 4!

Kind regards

Mrs Munro
